Difference between Blend Fields and Interpolate??

I'm using Vegas Studio 10.0 and shooting video with a Canon Rebel T2i. I convert the video clips to an avi using Prism Video File Converter.

Anyway, just curious what the actual difference is between "Blend" and "Interpolate Fields" in the project properties. I have no idea what these two words mean.

One other question I would like to ask is about fast moving objects looking blurred compared to their background. I'm thinking if I'm panning with a fast moving object I should turn the Image Stabilizer off? Any tips on this with editing/settings or in the camera?

Any thoughts would be great thanks.

Use Interpolation. You throw away one field by doing so (so you halve the resolution), but you gain in clarity, which in my opinion is way more important. Examples here: http://eugenia.queru.com/images/interlaced.png

Of course, the remedy for all this is to shoot progressively. Personally, I will never touch a camcorder again that shoots interlaced. It's a thing of the past.

Hi Eugenia.

Don't mean to hijack the thread.

The T2i / T3i can shoot in 30P or 60i at 1080P. It can also shoot 60P at 720P.

What setting would you recommend for a shot destined to be slowed down ?

Thanks

This is incorrect. The Canon dSLRs do 24p, 25p and 30p at 1080p, not 60i. I'm glad that Canon never added interlaced on their digicams.

For slow motion your best bet is 720/60p (59.94 fps), either slowed down exactly 50% to 30p (0.500 in the properties dialog, 29.97 fps), or 0.400 to 24p (23.976 fps).

I recently posted an example of 720 60p slowed down to 30p here:
