difference between new bezier mask and the mask tool we already had?

Mindmatter wrote on 8/27/2018, 1:47 PM

well, the title basically says it all. Watched the demo clip but couldn't quite see what the new aspect would be compared to the masking tool we already had from the Sony days.

Anyone care to elaborate?

Thanks!

The legacy way of using bezier masks in Vegas Pro is that one used via the Pan/Crop tool which limits it to be used as Event FX only.

The new one can be used as Media FX, Event FX, Track FX, Parent FX or Output FX. It's more easy to use (e.g. directly adjustable inside the preview window) more easy to manage, especially if you're using more than one mask and now can use motion tracking for each of the 5 masks inside one FX (masking and motion tracking is kind of married here).

I really like it. I'm faster then before in creating the masks and the tracking option speeds up complex FX or cut-out positioning even more.

thanks Marco!

Yep, my wrist still kinda hurts from the hundreds of mask points I drew in my last project, let alone tracking them...

Having said that, I really would like someting like Photohops magic wand to sort of autodetect edges of a complex object if they are contrasted enough. Drawing a lot these points by hand really can be tedious.

will test it asap.

Just curious, do you think they will add the ability to track, then parent to a null object? Right now it is limited to only an fx. I notice Magix Pro Edit has that ability. Once that feature is added, I really have no reason to use any other software program.

According to another post here (and to an official tutorial video) an option (via script) will be added soon to allow Titles&Text Events to be tracked.

uh..I really hope so, as tracking a text or png to a moving person or object is really what I was looking / hoping for. Hitfilm express does really well it for free, as you can even type in a text in the tracking window itself but it's a a bit of a drag to constantly exchange clips between apps.
