Different AR between HDV and SD mpeg-2

I'm sure I could nut this out myself but I'm running out of hair to pull out, anymore and my barbers out of a job.

Today using Vegas 6 (99) I encoded straight from m2t on the T/L in a HDV project to mpeg-2 using the PAL widescreen template. Results are excellent, except I ended up with black bars on each side of the frame.
Did I miss something?

Hardly a big issue as I'm certain the TV will mask off more than these bars and it's only a preview DVD anyway.

Also is the colorspace conversion issue now taken care of by Vegas 6?

Hm,
no one else seen this!
Not to worry. Checked the DVD on the home player and as I suspected the bars are masked out. Guess it'll only be an issue on LCDs and PC playback.
BTW, video looks awesome. Only boring shots of packaging plant but HDV copes much better than I'd thought it would. Even tight shots of small packages of sweets bouncing around on conveyers holdup OK.

arrrgh!... I was hoping to read this and see a solution.

I've been given a DVCam tape from a production company. When I go to capture this tape using V6b I get Black Bars on both sides of the video. The Black Bars show up in VidCap and on the Captured file.

I've tried changing the aspect ratio in VidCap but the Bars do NOT go away. If I capture then use TrackMotion to 'zoom in' on the phootage till the Black Bars are gone, I figure I'm losing a bit of resolution. I'd really like to capture exactly how it was sent to me to keep the quality.

These guys are using an AVID system and are saying that VEGAS is causing this to happen and I need to check my settings. I'd really love to either work this out on my end or be able to point them in the right direction as to what they need to do on their end.

Has anyone experienced this? Any thoughts on what/where I should be looking for these 'settings'? Suggestions?
