Different Serial number for DVD-A5 upgrade??

The Sony Products website says DVD-A5 is free to registered users of 4.5.

I'm a registered user of 4.0 --- never bothered with 4.5 -- I have the 4.5 installer, but I didn't get a new serial number with it -- same serial number as 4.0, I'm assuming.
Now I've downloaded 5.0 because of widescreen letterboxing needs. The installer won't accept the serial numbers that I have for VegasPro8 or for DVD-A4.

If DVD-A5 is a free upgrade, how do I get the serial number I need? No info in the Release Notes.

**I'm not asking anybody to send me a serial number -- I just want to know how I'm supposed to get it from Sony. The DVD-A5 installer says I was supposed to receive a serial number by email when I downloaded the upgrade --- but I didn't receive any such email.

It depends, what kind of Vegas licens you have. There are Vegas licenses that were sold together with camcordes - this OEM versions do not include the DVDA5, but only Vegas Pro 7 or 8.

If you have a Vegas Pro 8 license, that includes both Vegas 8 and the DVDA 4.5, then the serial for DVDA 4.5 will work also for the DVDA5 (but for sure not the serial for DVDA 4.0).

I have the "real" license -- I've been a VegasPro guy since before Vegas even had video (it started out as a multitrack audio package).

I've bought all the upgrades since the begining, and I received DVD-A4 when I upgraded to Vegas8Pro.

I do have the installation executable for DVD-A4.5, but Sony didn't send me any new serial number with that when I downloaded it, either. I only have the DVD-A4 serial number, which the DVD-A5 installer refuses to accept.

DVDA4 came along with V7, not with V8.

DVDA4.5 came along with V8Pro.

You should have recieved a serial number fro DVDA4.5 along with your serial number for V8Pro. This is the serial number you will need for DVDA5.

I've got the exact same problem. I have the full version of Vegas 8.0, but the serialnumber of my DVD Architect 4.5 starts with 1D2-XXXX, but 5.0 requires 1CR-XXX serial.

in "my software" is lists "DVD Architect Pro 4.5/5.0 1CR-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX". Works both in 4.5 & 5 (re-installed 4.5 because of SD issues with 5.0).

You most likely need to install & register 4.5 FIRST so the system knows you have it?

No, I downloaded and installed 5.0 directly on a new system and it registered fine with my 4.5 serial number. That being said, I have the upgrade version of Vegas 8 pro, so I had installed V6 and then V8 before installing DVDA5 - don't know if that made a difference.

I had previously registered 4.5 (on a different machine but not on the new machine), so it was in the Sony database. But I don't see how that would affect what serial the install asks for. On the other hand, I could see how the presence or absence of a previous version on the traget computer itself could affect what install code is being asked for.

Ths might shed some light on the OP's experience. If you want to install the upgrade version of V8 pro on the computer, the install checks to see if a previous version has been installed. If it hasn't, the install will not continue. Now you can install the V8 upgrade even if you have installed a previous version of Vegas but not entered the serial into it. In that case, when you start V8 it first asks you for the serial for the previous version, and after you enter that, it asks for the serial for the upgrade version.

I have no idea how this works with DVDA, though. Like I said, I installed DVDA5 without any other version of DVDA on the computer, and just used the DVDA4.5 serial that was packaged with my Vegas 8 Pro upgrade.

I was think that when DVDA4.5 was released the codes were different then now. So when you registered 4.5 it updates the codes so 5.0 will work too. But since he never installed 4.5 the code was never updated.

The Upgrade version of Vegas Pro 8 I purchased and personally have installed on several different machines checks for an installation of a previous version on the computer and will not allow the installation to continue if it does not find it (and says so on the box). There may or may not be other "upgrade" version that do not act in this way.

I'm not sure, I think off of eBay for a while they were being sold for just over $100. It was a boxed upgrade version, like this:

I suspect that because you got yours from Sony, they could check your registration info to determine you already owned an upgrade-eligible version. If you buy from B&H, say, there's no way to determine if you're eligible, hence the check during the install. At least that's what I think.
