Digit-The Vegas "plug-in"

vitalforces wrote on 9/9/2003, 9:28 PM
Forgive the presumptuous question, it's been asked before, but I'm in NYC and after long searching CANNOT find a copy of Issue #64 of DIGIT Magazine, carrying the free ParticleIllusionSE CD. Is there someone who could pick one up and let me reimburse him/her?

I'm making a DV feature and need a snow effect in one scene. This is an irresistable chance to avoid paying several hundred bucks to make it.

I've ordered it online and it arrived a week ago. Probably your best bet is to order it from them directly via their web site.

BTW it's not a 'plug-in'.

It's also a $99 program. It's not the full version. The copy that comes with Digit 064 is the SE version. The full version is $399.

By the way it says here, that the upgrade from SE to the full version is $150. I wonder if that applies to one that came with Digit?

I too looked around NYC for it last week, but they were up to 065 already.

Yes, order the back issue from Digit's web site. In the meantime use the 30-day trial of SE from the Wondertouch web site.

The one that comes with Digit you can upgrade to the full version 3 for $249.

As a plugin?
Just a note to all, I had to access a clue from JohnnyRoy last March to import my DV clips into the free PartIll, SE. I take a clip I'd like to animate and rerender it.

Open Render As . . . Options . . . Video tab . . . and deselect "Create an Open DML compatible file." I can then use these clips in PI, Cool3D, or whatever. I then export the animated clip back out as an *.avi into my captured media folder and drop it into Vegas projects with no probs.

Otherwise you import a clip into Particle Illusion SE and it's garbage. It's a really cool program, even if it is limited to 1 layer. DGrob

I found four copies on Sunday at a local borders (Oakbrook for those near Chicago) unfortunately my online ordered copy had already arrived. If you still need one I oculd stop over and get you one assuming they still have it.

This is really a great magazine and extras. I am still playing with the Worldbuilder 3d program included in issue 63 (I could not have them ship me just one all the way from England).

I have rendered out some uncompressed AVI's in Vegas and then imported them into ParticleIllusion and they looked great, not sure why yours looks like garbage. I just rendered it out as an uncompressed AVI, then Imported it, then I rendered it out of PI (uncompressed AVI again) and then brought it back into Vegas and was able to render it to a wmv file and it looked great.

Also for those in the Chicago area... MicroCenter, probably the biggest retail computer "super" store in the area near Ogden and Cass in Westmont had them. Where I got mine. They've got at least a 100 different computer magazines. Getting late for that particular issue however.

Hello, Mandk

This is now an updated message. I have taken advantage of another poster's offer to send me a copy. So, don't make a special trip on my account. I thank you, and am leaving this with the original message to clarify and cancel.

If you happen to pass that way, again, I'll be glad to reimburse you for it plus reasonable shipping. Can't afford the "Ordered from England" version.

The request to Mandk is now cancelled unless I post another request.

"rendered out some uncompressed AVI's in Vegas and then imported them"

I don't know why. When I capture with Vegas it's going into their codec (a fine one as I understand). It may very well require either a render step as uncompressed or the disabled Open DML file option to get the clip into a condition some apps recognise. There was a link just recently in one of our posts that pointed this option out to me.

I've been using the procedure I described to get out of the Vegas-captured DV clip and convert it into something PartIll can use. Then I import back into Vegas as an additional clip alongside the original and I'm off to the races. Aren't your uncompressed files pretty large? DGrob

Vitalforces,

If you are in NYC go to Tower Records. That's where I bought it.

LOOOOOG way for a "free" program. In any case, I have located one care of the good graces of this wonderful forum. May the "backlight" shine on Sony and help them decide to keep it EXACTLY like it is.

Wanted to say thanks for that copy of DIGIT 64. Well worth it, from first looks. I really appreciate your help in getting a copy.

Just curious... I got my copy of PI from the magazine (in rural, central Virginia!), so I'm all set. But for those who couldn't find a copy, I'm wondering. Would it be "fair use" to make a copy and give it away? Would it be "fair use" to charge for the blank CD? I'm not offering to do this, mind you, I'm just curious.

(I'm also vitalforces) Thanks to those responding to my request re: the DIGIT CD. I combed through the Tower at NYU and other stores and never found it. I would guess the time has run out. I'm melting...melting...

Anyway, if anyone can point me to a store in NYC, including address, that should have issue 64 as of today, feel free to advise. I'll check back tomorrow and if no luck I'll see if one's still for sale through my forum brothers (and sisters).
Jsnkc wrote on 9/17/2003, 10:47 AM
Not a problem, glad I could help :)

And for those of you who can't find one in stores just order it off the magazines website, it's simple and will arrive in a couple weeks.

http://www.digitmag.co.uk/backissues/

IT will cost you $15.57 including shipping to aywhere in the US.

Hi,

I've not been able to find a copy of the mag in Milwaukee. If anyone has an extra copy still available, please let me know by Emailing drichard@wi.rr.com. I'm hoping to avoid having it shipped from England. But I will do that as a last resort if no one has a copy for sale.

Thanks,

Dean

Why is that? I just bought a copy Sunday night from Barnes & Noble Booksellers in Mohegan Lake, NY. They had four (4) copies (three left after I bough one). It costs me $13.50 plus tax. So if its only $15.57 from the web site, that’s a better deal than one of us buying it for you and then adding sales tax and a few bucks for shipping.
