digital gaps in recording into vegas 3.0c multi-trk file

Never had this problem before: Recording overdubs into to vegas 3.0c, I get tiny gaps that sound likje pops. They happen about every 60-90 secs. When I start a fresh multi-track project, it doesn't happen. I've removed and re-installed all my sonic foundry programs, loaded windows 98se over, checked my a/d converter. I'm down to thinking that I'll need to shoot my windows 98se in the head and start from scratch. By the way, has anyone had success using windows xp and an emulator with the alesis adat card?

What card are you using for audio input, and what is your master clock? I've had trouble in the past with one card doing the recording, but not synced to the clock that the rest of the system was using.

Do you have ADATs? You may be in a situation where the card is not synced to the same clock as the ADATs.

You might also check your video card. I'm currently having some problems with digital clicks in rendering (and other strange "audio" wierdness) which are clearly related to the video card (error messages have confirmed this). A new card should arrive today.

And yes, it'd be a good idea to upgrade to XP.

Matrox Millennium G450 (which I've heard a lot of postive comments about). Intalling it tonight and will let you know. Actually I've been satisfied with my older ATI Rage Fury 128 Pro card but apparently it has started to fail and is causing all kinds of strange stuff. Hadn't changed anything. . . just started having crashes, glitching and booting errors all clearly related to the card.

Thanks for the response: I have a Fostex D2424LV that I set on record pause and use it as an A/D converter. I go by light pipe out of the Fostex through an Alessis ADAT card straight into my Vegas 2.0c. I'm set at 24 bit/48 sample. The gaps seem to have begun happening since I decided to move up from 44.1. Do you think that that my be the problem. The ADAT card is synced to an external device (Fostex). What do you think

Could be. Go back to 44.1 and see if it fixes it. If it does fix it, and for some reason you MUST use 48, make sure all the units are set accordingly. Keep experimenting. . .

Thanks . . . I've decided to go ahead and shoot my computer in the head and get a new motherboard, processor, more RAM. and a new sound card that will sample up to 96. Wish me luck!
