Greetings. Here's a head scratcher for you.
My system specs:
Dual Athlon MP 1800
Asus Motherboard
1 Gig ECC RAM
30 gig SCSI system drive
120 gig and 200 gig storage drives.
EMU sound card
CompUSA firewire card.
Sony 16X dvd burner
Panasonic AG-DV2000 deck
WinXP pro with service pack 2
Vegas 5.0d
All drivers including Bios drivers are up to date.
NOT CONNECTED TO INTERNET(sorry about the caps)
We have an issue when capturing that occurs randomly. We get digital video garbage when we try to capture/and or preview video in Vegas capture window. Sometimes the artifacts occur when I'm just previewing video without capturing and sometimes during the actual capture process.
(this garbage is not just small amounts of artifacts but butchers the entire image as well as audio)
When this garbage occurs we can't get Vegas back to normal without rebooting. Sometimes rebooting once doesn't help and we have to reboot a couple of times.
The tapes are fine as they play back in other decks/cameras without issue. And we tried other cables and using the same cable on other cameras to capture with.
We thought it was a firewire issue with our deck(panasonic ag-dv2000) and sent it in to a pani service center. They couldn't find anything wrong with it. They did reallign the heads and clean it though. The interesting thing is that we have been capturing successfully(for the most part) using our other cameras with the same firewire cable. It did happen a couple times using other cameras though.
We have also replaced the video card, power supply, audio card, and firewire card. Nothing has solved the problem. I thought it was the graphics card so we replaced our matrox g450 with a radeon 9550. No luck. At this point I'm doubtful it's the display card since it only affects the Vegas prevew window and not my display in general.
I thought it might be a PCI bus issue and took out all the cards and changed up the card order. I also put in one card at a time and tested. Even with only the firewire card in, it still had problems. This was with the new firewire card as well.
We have tested the RAM, having put one 512 stick in at a time by itself. It occurred with both sticks of RAM. We also have ECC so it should be fine.
We also reformatted the system drive and reinstalled everything. I thought it might be service pack 2 so I tried it with only service pack 1...still had the problem. The service pack2...the same thing. Then I installed only Vegas in case there was a software conflict. Still had issues.
The main things we haven't tried are replacing motherboard and processors and replacing our system drive. One thing of note is that our system drive is the SCSI drive and the card is on a 64 bit PCI slot.
I've had suspicions that it may be motherboard related but we're holding out for confirmation since we don't really have a good way of testing it.
If anybody has suggestions I would be so grateful. This problem has been tormenting us for over 4 months now. Thanks a bunch.
Matt
