Directions for multi track recording V4

Been looking all over the Vegas 4 manual, searching this forum and others to find some basic directions or a tutorial on multi-track recording in Vegas. I have a Firepod with 8 mic inputs on a laptop. Need to learn how to assign each mic channel to an audio track in Vegas.
Anyone know of some directions or a tutorial?
Thanks for any help on this!

If your sound card only has stereo inputs, that may be all you have. 2 tracks. I have an Audigy2Platinum (which is undesirable to most at this forum), It took me a while to find the information within the "Creative" instruction manual, but I have 6 inputs and could record up to 6 tracks at a time. There are more expensive sound cards. ( People will probably start chiming in as soon as I post this) with 8 inputs or more.
I'm not sure what a Firepod is, but it sounds like an 8 input mixer which probably has a stereo output. But if it is a soundcard with 8 mic inputs, then you just need to open up your "Preferences" in 'Options' and find your "Audio Device" in 'Options'. Then open an audio track in Vegas and switch on the "Arm Record" button, a number will appear next to the button. Click on that number and a drop down of all your inputs should show up. From this point on, you'll need both your Firepod manual and your Vegas Manual, but it's basically easy from there. (and of course, wait for all the corrections for my advice to follow.)

Make sure you are pointing to the proper audio device in Preferences> Audio Device.

Set the inputs by right-clicking the audio track headers>Record Inputs>Stereo> (or mono) > pick from the list.

Thanks for the help....kind of embarrassing ... was trying to assign tracks but didn't have the Firepod connected to my laptop. DOH!
It's making sense now!
