DirectX error

All of a sudden I receive "An error occurred while loading (project name). A DirectX or plug-in specified is not installed on this system" in the project I have been working on for 2 weeks. It is about 2 hours long and this message first appeared today. When I look at the details of the error message all I get are zeroes.

I searched the forum and only found references where the details specified a specific address. Someone also mentioned using a program called bin text. I ran that program but wasn't sure what I was looking for or how the DirectX or plug-ins would be identified.

The only thing different is that I am in the trial period of using Noise Reduction but I haven't used it in this project. I DO NOT get this message when loading other projects.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I've noticed that if I use the DirectX sound drive in Vegas I get lots of DirectX crashes. So, I only need the DirectX when i'm doing surround (to preview), so that's the only tiem I have it enabled.

Try checking that.

Thanks, but how do I enable/disable DirectX?

BTW, think I found the problem... I was fooling around wrth NR on a clip and the clip remained in the media pool (but not on the timeline). When I cleaned the media pool the error message went away. I just wonder if there is some problem when you attempt to use the NR plug-in during the 7 day traial period....?

This same error happens when you download a VEG from Sundance whose user had some tool, or used some tool, you don't have installed on your system. Typically many VEG's use the 3dLE plugin. If it is not installed, you will get the "DirectX" error.

One last question, is there an "easy" way to find which plug-in or DirectX is being identifed as "in error"???

If you look at the details on that screen, there should be a LONG string with a bunch of numbers and letters. These will match the registry entry for that tool. Maybe someone needs to make a compilation matching the string to the tool.

Only problem with that is that the details were all zeroes!!!!!
