Disappearing OFX support in VEGAS Pro – Where is the alternative?

I’m a video creator who has been using VEGAS Pro as my main editing platform for over 10 years.
But recently, it feels like more and more plugin developers are abandoning VEGAS.

Many new plugins are now being developed mainly for Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or Final Cut.
I was even approached for a collaboration with Dehancer, but unfortunately had to decline because VEGAS Pro wasn’t supported.

On top of that, I heard that even Red Giant Universe and Magic Bullet — which I’ve relied on heavily — will stop supporting VEGAS Pro in 2026.
Honestly, it feels like major companies are turning their backs on VEGAS.

I still enjoy working with VEGAS Pro and want to keep using it.
But now, I think it’s time to focus on developing VEGAS’ own native features, instead of relying on OFX plugins.

We need strong internal tools that make plugins optional, not essential.
I hope VEGAS won’t fall behind in important areas like AI features or advanced text/title tools.

I sincerely hope VEGAS Pro continues to grow and evolve. I'm rooting for you. Go VEGAS! 💪

What about the excellent OFX plugins from top tier OFX companies like BorisFX and NewBlueFX? They still support Vegas Pro.

To put Red Giant (now under MAXON ownership) in context, only a very few of their products have ever been compatible with Vegas Pro. BTW, Magic Bullet is great, but my understanding is that you can continue using it but without any updates from now on.

We need strong internal tools that make plugins optional, not essential.

Do Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve and Final Cut Pro work for you without the need for any 3rd party OFX?

As I explore the impressive capabilities of many newly released plugins, I often find myself thinking, “I really want to try this.” However, when I check which programs are supported—especially on Windows—it's almost always Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve, and VEGAS Pro is frequently left out.

As of 2025, it’s fair to say that almost no new OFX plugins are being developed for VEGAS Pro. While I’m familiar with plugin providers like Boris FX and NewBlue, it’s clear that NewBlue, in particular, has shown virtually no FX-related development or innovation in years. They continue to offer the same features, which led me to cancel my TotalFX subscription.

In contrast, Boris FX continues to release meaningful updates each year, and I actively subscribe to and use Continuum, Sapphire, Mocha, Red Giant, Magic Bullet, Universe, and PluralEyes.

That said, the announcement of Red Giant discontinuing official support was honestly a bit disheartening. While legacy support remains for now, it’s only a matter of time before compatibility issues start to arise.

To summarize, not only are many powerful existing plugins being phased out, but most of the new plugins launching today are excluding VEGAS Pro altogether. This reality makes it clear to me that native functionality within VEGAS Pro has become more important than ever—especially when looking ahead to the future.

I think once upon a time VEGAS made it easy for developers to create software to create plugins for VEGAS (wasn't there a published API?).

After the dust settles over the video engine reworking, I hope OFX support is brought up to date and VEGAS reaches out to plugin makers to encourage and support development for VEGAS.

I do agree some functions ought to just be native and the program has had a pretty good recent history of incorporating open source software and algorithms (the various AI technology).

I completely agree with what you said.
It's not just about plugins—we should also remember what happened back then as a lesson.

I still recall how excited I was when VEGAS POST Suite was first introduced, with VEGAS Effects and VEGAS Image as part of the bundle. It truly felt like VEGAS Pro had its own version of the Premiere + After Effects combo, and personally, I really liked the synergy between VEGAS Pro and VEGAS Effects.

I was using them with great satisfaction…
But then, just like that, they disappeared into history.
Of course, it wasn’t VEGAS’s fault—it was more about Artlist. Still, it reminded me that depending too heavily on external partnerships is risky. Nothing lasts forever.

I sincerely hope VEGAS builds more of its own internal capabilities going forward.

The Vegas Team should focus on performance improvement and stability enhancement.
Developing OFX is not something that the Vegas Team excels at. For instance, features such as Bezel masks, motion tracking, AI style transfer, AI coloring, and color grading, which were developed by Vegas itself, often take several years to have no bugs and for users to use.
Mending the relationship with the OFX manufacturer is what Magix/Vegas should do.

No, it seems that the latest Universe and Looks (ver 2025.4) have stopped being displayed in Vegas.
