Disc Management problems

I have 2 IDE hard drives installed. The first one is 60GB and partitioned C & D both these drives work fine for captue . The second drive is 160GB Maxtor formatted NTFS. This hard drive works fine with ever day use. I can bring this hard drive up in Disc Management and it says 92% empty. I select ok and get AN ERROR OCCURRED AN EXCEPTION OCCURRED. There are alot of details listed but they don't mean any thing to me just a bunch code.
Thanks

Are you talking about Windows' disk management or Vegas?

If its a NTFS volume right click on the drive letter from My Computer, properties/tools then error checking, set to fix errors automatically, skip the surface scan. Windows will probably nag it can't do it now, ask if you want to schedule for next time you boot. Shut down, don't freak when you see a pale blue screen. There are three stages, how long it takes to get through them all depends on the speed of your computer, how large the drive and what/if something is wrong with the file system. XP seems to be the best at fixing things itself. This may or may not be the problem. It doesn't hurt and you should do it every so often anyway.

Thanks for the reply Billy
I completed the error checking but it didn't help at all. The 160GB hard drive has been set as slave with C drive and also as a master with the cd rom drives dissconected. I have also tryed a differant hard drive in it's place still no luck. I have had it pluged into IDE 1 and IDE 2 that didn't help. There must be a setting I am missing.
