Disc Operation "A Write Error Occurred"

WeavCorp wrote on 11/29/2014, 2:32 PM
Every time I attempt to create a DVD after a few minutes of processing, the job stops and displays a message "A write error has occurred. The disc may be dirty or corrupted." I've experienced this problem with several blank DVDs with both DVD Architect Pro and DVD Architect Studio.

How old is your DVD burner? Perhaps the laser diode is wearing out. Can you create a DVD folder with DVDA and burn it with ImgBurn?

I have a Samsung Blu-ray Drive and a LG Blu-ray Burner. I've had the Samsung for about 4 years and the LG drive I've had since June 2014. I've tried burning a DVD on both drives and it still has the same error message.

I've even tried using different DVDs. When I check the disc status before I burn a DVD it says DVD-R instead of Blank Disc. Same thing happens when I insert a Blu-ray Disc.

I prepared the project into a DVD folder and burned files directly to the disc using Windows Explorer. How do I prepare a project into a Blu-ray Disc image and burn files to the disc?

Can I use Cyberlink Power2Go or do I have to use ImgBurn to do that? And does it affect the picture quality when you don't burn the disc using DVD Architect Pro?

I don't know Power2Go, but you can certainly burn a BD ISO file to a disc using ImgBurn. Burning is merely copying digital files.

If the copy is good then the quality will be unchanged. If the copy is not good then you are likely top get drop outs, stuttering or not play at all.

I was able to burn the BD ISO file using Power2Go onto a Blu-ray Disc. As far as the DVD, I copied the DVD files and burn it directly on the disc using Windows Explorer.

But I still don't understand why it won't let me burn directly in DVD Architect Pro. My DVD drive isn't that old and I was able to burn DVDs and Blu-ray Discs before and then all of the sudden it stopped.

Do you know what the problem is or do you know any professional video editor on the forum that can help me?

It looks like we can rule out your burners as the problem. It must be DVDA.

All I can suggest is to uninstall it, clean the registry with CCleaner or similar (this is equivalent to incanting magical words!) and then re-install.

If that doesn't work then it gets rather difficult, ranging from software conflicts to something broken in Windows.

As it happens, I have been making a BD project and struck an error, so I will tell you what I did, in case it may help you.

I had created an ISO file and viewed it on my TV, and noted some things that should be tidied up. This included deleting small bits on the timeline here and there. After re-rendering the video and audio in Vegas Pro, the scene markers no longer corresponded to the markers in the old project. No problem. I clicked on the Load Markers icon, and noted that the markers jumped slightly to the left, as expected. However when remaking the BD ISO file, I got an error right at the end of the render menus stage.

I then tried several things that didn't help. I then remembered that the problem arose after the edits that necessitated reloading the markers, so I deleted the scene menu and remade the ISO file - success!

I then added the scene menu and remade the ISO file - success!!

So what is the moral?
If all else fails, try remaking your project a stage at a time and see if you can identify what it is that breaks things.
