Disc Space?

Bare with me Im new to all this video stuff and Im actually just in to it as a hobby. I had a lot of video for a project I was into and it took up an enormous amount of space on my hard drive which I thought wasnt proportionate to the amount of media I had for the project. After I was done with my project I went ahead and deleted all the media I used for it, but still there's all this unaccounted for space used up on my computer, compared to when I started the thing about a week ago.

I know I should look into an external hard drive for media if I want to continue doing this type of thing, but I wont be getting any of that any time soon. For now Im just thinking I'll work on one project at a time, but whats with all this space being eaten up? Are there certain files I should be looking for to delete or a way to save space?

You really need to buy an external (usb) drive. 300Mb will do for all practical means. They have become rather cheap.
Once you have burnt a dvd to your satisfaction, you can delete the prepare folder. If you want another copy, you can copy your master dvd.
If you have minidv, there's no need to keep the captured files on your drive after you have finished the project, because you can always recapture. 1 hour of minidv = 13Gb drive space
Vegas allows you to for yourself where it will place files on your drive. Take your time to get to work with it and learn how to keep your drive clean from excess files.

In addition to everything Ivan123 said, go to Options > General tab and look at the Temporary Files folder. On exit these files are supposed to be cleared, but sometimes after a crash they may not be deleted - open the folder and delete files after exiting the app.

Try Tools > Clean up prerendered video - if you used that feature.

Ultimately though, you will need a (much?) larger disk if you plan to continue to edit video - deleting, re-capturing, re-rendering etc. will get old quickly.
