"disc used" INCREASES when removing items?!

Ok, my project was getting a bit full. Intentionally so I could decide which things would go on disc 2.

Howerver, now that I'm removing items from my DVDA project, my "disc used" amount has grown from 4.5 to 8.0 gb!

I can't get it to go down--except by deleting an entire menu, submenu system.

The more I went through each link and "removed" the track media (leaving the link and audio file there) the size would actually INCREASE. The menu is an mp3 with a .png background. About 14 links are on the page. Each is an audio file with a simple .png image to serve as a title.

I've been using DVDA for a few years now and have never seen this one.

To test things out, I just deleted the entire menu. 'DISC USED' went down.

However, when inserting media I selected the appropriate audio file. DVDA automatically inserted the corresponding named mpg to go with it. No big deal. Disc used updated according to 398 mb. BUT, when I deleted the mpg (infavor instead of a simple .png background image) the thing jumped to 2.5 gb.

It does this with any ac3 / mpg 2 combo. Add both files, size goes up fine. Remove the large mpg and size continues to climb--not go down.

I'm going to make up some hypothetical numbers to demonstrate an example of what I think is happening.

Let's say your project has a default video bitrate of 8mbps.

Now you add a dvd-compliant 30-minute video that was encoded at ~5mbps.

This makes your project size go to about 1.1 gb (and DVDA does not require you to re-compress your dvd compliant mpeg video).

Now you remove the mpeg video. But because the audio is still there, it thinks it will need to encode 30-minutes of video at your project default video bitrate of 8mbps. So your disc space used jumps up to ~1.8 gb.

So, I think as you remove the mpeg video, DVDA assumes it will encode the video track for the duration of the remaining audio track (30 minutes in this case) at your project default video bitrate...
