huh seems pretty clear that magic slug did a better conversion than Vegas 6.

they dont say what settings they used in vegas -- and it is clear that they used the default settings .. better results can be obtained in vegas to be sure ...

the time for MB to do the processing is nuts .... can you imagine 1 hour of footage.

That being said , there are better ways to do deinterlacing (look at the deinterlacing windvd or powerdvd does on the fly for example - which is adaptive deinterlacing) ..

scripts for avisynth can produce really good results very very fast ...

some of the best ive seen (other than dedicated hardware) was using digital fusion - and with a render farm (or not) makes quick work of any clip ... besides the internal deinterlacing, additional plug-ins are available .. ('sin city' was proccessed on fusion btw)

but you are talking going from a 600$ app to a $5000 application also ...

Vegas deinterlacing isn't its strongest feature. But be aware we have Wax which can be used as Vegas plugin and this way Wax offers to use most of the VirtualDub plugins inside Vegas. And there are some very good VirtualDub deinterlace plugins out there - any of them - Wax and the VD plugins - for free.

Vegas does an ok job but if you have the money I would highly recomend After Effects and Twixtor Pro.

Ture fact. [I did a 70+ hour render not too long ago...]

Results were amazing.

I would like to see Vegas with MB vs the AE/MB combo on both quality and render time in that DVXUser test.

u guys ibviously havent seen smartdeinterlacer plugin...

also the V5 and V6 deinterlacing algorythms are VERY different, so V6 will generally "look" better...

but i stil think smart deinterlacer is king..

smart deinterlacer plugin is very good - and as i mentioned there are great scripts and plugin for avisynth (and virtualdub) using the same plus other filters ..
only real issue with using those filters is that they are single threaded only .....

>>> u guys ibviously havent seen smartdeinterlacer plugin..<<<

I have seen it and used it and still like the AE/Twixtor method better.
Also i did a little test - I took a aprox 4 minute promo and did some effects (Cookie cutter, blur, zenote letterbox)
Added a Magic Bullet look and than frame served out into After Effects with the Twixtor pro plug-in being used and rendered out to 24p. Time to do that was about 4 hours - so aprox 1 minute = 1 hour of render time. Not too bad but I was using a very basic MB look , really only adjusting pre and post contrast.

I did ther same thing in Vegas fully and the render time was about the same and the results were worse as far as the 30i > 24p goes.
