display clip filename on render

I'm looking for an easy way to number or display the file name of each clip of a photo montage in a draft render. This is needed so the client can review the order of the photos and determine where each song should be started and stopped, where titling should go, etc...

I have used timecode, but that is sometimes difficult for some clients to decipher. I have also added titling to display a number for each clip, but that is time consuming for me (Although, I suppose I could use a script or macro to do that).

I might be missing something obvious in Vegas, so I would appreciate any help one can give me.

Thanks

A prior suggestion (a few weeks ago maybe) for a similar request was to use the "Picture Gallery" of DVDA3 - as that allows you to have the filename overlayed across each image. If it is just order of images you are worried about (rather than showing some specific treatment using Vegas) - that might be enough.

Thanks for the suggestion, Liam.

The only issues with using DVDA3 is that I want to stream the draft video so the customer can download it instead of putting it on DVD and sending it to them. I also don't have DVDA3. I know... waiting until the last moment before the special upgrade offer is discontinued ;-)

Any other suggestions from the Forum?

Well, if you don't mind going a bit round-about ... how's this?

Create a new project with an empty event, as many seconds long as you have pictures, plus 1. Add the timecode effect set to seconds. Use the cookie cutter effect to block out everything but the seconds digits. Render this to a new file.

Open up your slide show project. Place the file from above on a new top track. Use chroma key or compositing/add to have the slides show through behind the digits. Chop off the first second which is "0". Stretch it out to be the same length as your project. If your slides last more than 4 seconds you'll have to use a velocity envelope in conjunction with ctlr-dragging.

If you've lined things up right, you should see a "1" over the first picture, "2" over the second, etc. and continuing.

Not the easiest method, but it sure beats typing all the numbers.

Thanks Kelly, that's actually a very good idea worth trying.

Sure wish that there was simply an option to display the clip name during render, but I guess you just can't have everything.

Since there does not appear to be a built in function for this I will submit this idea to Sony as a product improvement to the next version. I think it would be very helpful to wedding videographers and the like. If they put it in, fine, if not your method should do the trick.
