Distorted Audio

The Scenario:

I have captured Video from a VCR via the D/A converter of my DV Cam. In Vegas, the audio is fine, very good signal, but not distorted.

Upon rendering to AVI, and importing into DVDA, the audio is now distorted. The peaks have been vut off flat, and the sound is noticably distorted.

I am rendering the Video for Windows (*.avi), using the PAL DV template.

Is anyone able to offer suggestions on why the audio is being distorted?

Cheers,

Andy

Any plugs inserted on the track? Any track defaults accidentally get changed? Any plugs inserted to the master? Any master settings accidentally get shifted up? Only some kind of processing could be responsible for this sort of shift, unless there was some weirdness loaded into a buffer or something.

Why do you render to avi if you want to import to DVDA? Try render to MPEG-2, preset called video stream for DVDA, and ac3 audio. Still, there is no apparent reason why the avi audio should distort.

Spot: I didn't touch any audio, the usual presets for audio were on the track, but nothing was activated. I had a four hour file, the only thing I did to the file was cut out the ads, reducing the veg file to 1 hr 20 mins., and added markers.

Tor: It was a fast job, minimal hands on, I just need the DVD burnt, so I rendered to AVI and let DVDA work out the bit rate.

The audio is distorted on the DVDA time line as soon as the AVI is imported into DVDA.

Still wondering :(

What are the levels peaking at in Vegas? Meters are showing what?
I'm wondering if you have a level down somewhere, because Vegas can control audio, but DVDA can't.

Spot:

I had to go to work (gotta hate that!) so I won't be able to check the levels until tonight.

I rerendered the avi in vegas with the audio down by 1dB, but it made no difference. Audio was still distorted.

The signal is quite hot from the VHS but no peaking is evident in the graphic representation in the audio channel. I'll check the meters tonight.

In other programs I've used before, if you try to save a new file in the same place i.e. over the top of the old file, rendering with the same file name, often any changes made don't show up. Does this happen in Vegas?

Thanks for the help Spot. I ordered your book on Amazon, so in a month or two I won't have to bother you as often :)

Cheers,

Andy
