distortion in rendered stills

Hi, I'm usings stills (jpegs) I shot myself and in some images I see a digital distortion- like slight zebra stripes where it should be a continious color.
Previewing it in the good-auto mode shows the distortion, but in best-auto it's gone and the pic looks great. However, when I render it the distortion is back.
Is my shooting(still camera) res too low? But then again in the best preview mode evrything looks fine-I'm confused,HELP!
Thanks a bunch for any suggestions,
G.K.

It's likely not that your stills are too low in res, but more likely too high.
If you render to the BEST mode, and resample all stills, you should see this go away.
You also might find reducing the still size will help, unless you render to an HD or other high resolution format. You're doing some pretty heavy compression on those stills if you are rendering to DV or mpg.
