DivX AVI + Sound

mrdutchie wrote on 3/7/2003, 7:46 AM
Hello, I am trying to drag some files into the main menu screen, but
some files won't work. Some of them I can import and some of them I can't drag at all
Some of them are also saying
Video 29.97 videosize xxx xxx (don't remember the size) and sound Unknown.
So I guess it doesn't like the sound. Are there some requirements for the sound?
Cause in Media player the sound is just working fine.
Did a search, but didn't find anything about this

If it's a Divx file, (ie your post), it is likely that the sound file is in an unsupported format. (AC3, some MP3encodes). You can determine which format the sound is in using freeware Gspot. Then you can Demux the sound file using VirtualDub, then transcode the sound file to a standard wav file. Vegas will then recognize the file. For further info: search http://www.doom9.org/, this topic has been covered completely there. In addition, if you plan to edit/transcode a Divx file, you will find it much easier to work with in Vegas after converting the file to a standard *.avi file with Virtual Dub, (very large files, though). There are a number of tricky issues wrt to Divx/Xvid encoded files, and there are a number of good boards that discuss those issues. (doom, digital digest, divxforum, etc..)
Good luck

So, you can only save in AC3 sound 5.1/stereo, but not reading it?
And thanks for the links to see what kind of sound format it is. I will look into
that one.

Hi, I tried the Gspot program, and it tells me that it's a DivX file and this is the
sound format
0x0055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-1 Layer 3 (codec installeD)
and another file = ac3 (0x2000) "Dolby Laboratories, Inc"
and both are failing... the one with ac3 dolby doesn't even import to the main menu
when I drag it there is no + sign coming up and the other one I am able to drag
but then lockes at a "Analyzing peek something.. for the sound track"
Don't know if this is because of the Trial version? but would like to know before I buy it..
Thanks so much

I've used AviMux 1.12 (it's listed on Doom9) to quickly demux (no transcode necessary) a DivX file with AC-3 audio. I was able to bring the .ac3 file directly into DVDA. I re-rendered the video portion as MPEG2 in Vegas and then dropped that into DVDA with the AC-3 audio and burned them to disc.

Oh, just a note: the .ac3 file was like 200MB and for some reason it took DVDA a very long time to respond after clicking the file in the open file dialog. But after that it was quick to work with and required no recompression.

Thanks, I guess I need to wait longer then for the AC3 file.
Waited about 5 minutes and nothing happened so and the program was saying not responding.
