DIVX & DVD players

I understand that some DVD players will play DivX files but I am unsure how this works.

Can I just save the DivX files as data onto a DVD and some player will automatically play them or do they need to be rendered in a special way or have a menu set up or something else?

I have lots of small (300MB+) files I want to archive but would rather save on discs if I could save them as DivX rather than DVD compatible MPEG2s.

Cheers

That's it. As long as your file is SD rather than HD (just use the "theater" profile) it will play back just fine of a data DVD.

Thanks

One more question...

Do all the files have to be joined to form one big file or will the DVD player offer menu so any of the files can be selected?

Also, is there a limit to the number of files I can add other than physical disc size?

Sorry, that's two questions:)

Cheers
