DIVX import into 8.1?

I was a Vegas v.7 user for some time and I was able to import DIVX video clips into the timeline. I don't remember if I had to do something to enable that or if it worked that way by default. I've now upgraded to Vista64 and Vegas 8.1 onto new hardware. I just installed the free version of DIVX 7 onto the system. Vegas 8.1 can't read those same DIVX files that I used on the old PC. It can only decode the audio, but can't deipher the video stream. Any suggestions, other than recoding the DIVX into native AVI, I don't want to have to do that every time I need to work with DIVX. I can't tell if this is a version 8.1 issue or a 64 bit issue.

Search this forum for more details, as the issues with Vegas 8.1 are raised all the time. DIVX is a "3rd Party" 32 bit codec. Vegas 8.1 will only use its own built-in 32 bit codecs or any 64 bit Video for Windows (VFW) codec. The only exception to this rule is Cineform, which can be used as long as you use the Quicktime MOV wrapper and not AVI.

My advice is to stick with the 32 bit Vegas 8.0c, if want to continue to use DIVX. Vegas 8.0c works fine under Vista x64.
