Quick way ? I'd say no... You'll have to create a generic template...

So, is there a book on how to create a generic template?

... I'm also trying to find out how to get past the MMC vs. Midi discrepancy.
I heard mention that the DM1000 communicates via MMC, whereas Vegas only accepts Midi.

remoting is still fresh for Vegas. You just have to map your stuff one by one, and Vegas learns from input unless my memory decieves me. Set up what you need and roll.

Vegas' generic driver will permit the use of simple MMC for transport control. The remainder of the faders and such can be learned in Vegas' generic driver as well.

Does the DM1000 emulate any control only devices?

peter, i see no reason why the DM1000 couldn't emulate any control only devices... but i'm still getting used to using the thing. it's an intense board.

midi mapping for generic control could take a while to figure out...
but i know that automation control, linked with a DM1000 will be
an awesome configuration.

i'll update more as i learn.

My point is that the other Yamaha boards - 02, 03 - all had PTools type modes.

The native mode for the Yamaha's typically use SYSEX commands for many of thier functions. The Generic driver we provlde does not support this method of "learn". We have approached Yamaha to develope native drivers for Vegas, but they have not been very responsive. While we would love to have support for all of the varied devices out there, the time and resources to develope for devices like the DM1000 would only benifit a limited number of users. We have to rely on the hardware vendor to provide support for hosts as they best see fit.

ok - quick update:

I know that (generic audio In-put source) and Mackie Control is to Vegas,
as the Yamaha DM1000 is to Nuendo 3.0.

I also know that because of something funky with "yamaha",
the Learn function isn't supported in creating a generic midi map.

So,... do i have three options then?
1. configure it myself (taking forever) via trial and error?
2. call Sony and ask them to walk me through programming
just one channel? (then duplicate it down the line...)
3. purchase Nuendo and give up?

... i'm wondering if I haven't been thurough in scanning the web
for an already-existing midi map for the DM1000. Yamaha isn't
offering much up front (other than what is already built into the
unit). let me know any thoughts.

Hi Peter

I totally see your point about you not having the time and resources to develop for every single possible control surface. And yes, theoretically the responsibility should fall to the vendors. The problem as I see it though is that unfortunately Vegas has a relatively small market share so it would seem that many of these hardware vendors see little point devoting the necessary time and money to do this.

The Yamaha digital desks (the 0 series) are extremely popular in small to medium sized studios - a hell of a lot of people use them across recording studios, post and broadcast, as I'm sure you know. Case in point, of the small number of Vegas users I know, all have them have Yamaha 0 series digital desks in their studios. I also know the Yamahas are very popular with video users. They're popular because they're nice desks and of course can operate as control surfaces. Unfortunately no-one seems to be able to get the 0 series desks to properly communicate with Vegas; Vegas can follow the Yamaha's fader movements but not vice-versa. So the function is nearly there, but not nearly enough.

Would I be right is assuming a driver that would work for the 0 series would also work for the DM series? Surely it would be in Sony's interests to get these desks properly working with Vegas? A lot of people would love to see it.

so far the Time Code is communicating properly with Vegas, and it was just a matter of telling it which YAMAHA_USB # to communicate through.

It's becoming too obvious that with Nuendo's full-service integration with any Yamaha board, the parent company has enough problems of it's own...
let alone trying to integrate with a competition's (Sony) software.

I continue to search Forums and internet for a midi map... of course,
only when i have spare time... and who has spare time, eh?

(love your work guys! your input and expertise is awesome!)
