DNxHD 4k not ready yet - XAVC as an intermediate?

On 1080 projects, I typically use DNxHD 220Mbp/s as my mastering codec. This has worked fine for a while now. To my knowledge, DNxHD has not been released in 4K resolutions yet.

I have done 4k (UHD) test renders in XAVC and noticed that it's only 230 Mbp/s. This seems on the low side for a 10bit intraframe 4K codec. It's probably fine for capturing in camera but would any of you folks use that as a "mastering" or "intermediate" codec? Is that too low and would it survive multiple renders like DNxHD or Prores?

Is there a way to render out to a higher bitrate in Vegas 13? Like 400Mbp/s or more?

Vegas 13 seems to give very limited information on it's XAVC codec.

You should search this forum with term XAVC - you will find there is a lot of development that could be done in this matter - not ready for primetime on your local outlet (your PC) as yet.

Canopus HQX support up to 4k, 10bits 4:2:2 (with alpha support), from 45mbps to 600mbps... and is free

but i don't know timeline performance with them...

Easy enough to informally test. Take something you think suitable and do a multiple renders and then layer the original and final copy in Vegas and use difference composite mode. You will probably have to use color corrector to jack the exposure level to easily see the differences as hopefully they will be small.
