Do I need to archive XDCAM EX metadata?

When I import XDCAM EX mp4 files into my projects, I only work with the mp4 files themselves. However, I have also been archiving the entire set of files (SML, PPN, XML and BIM) that accompany each mp4 clip with the thought that these might have some use (if not, why would they have been created in the first place).

I have two questions:
1. Is there any use for these that I am currently not aware of (i.e. should I keep them)?

2. Do all XDCAM EX cameras produce these metadata files or is just particular to my JVC-HM750 ?

For archiving what I shoot with my EX1 I save the BPAV folders that contain everything. Less issues down the road.

I have already been archiving the BPAV folder. What I would like to know is why I should continue to do so? So far I have not seen any use for anything but the mp4 files themselves.

Because the focus distance, shutter speed/angle, aperture, gamma setting, white balance, gain, ND.. are all there in the Metadata. They are worth saving IMO. Open them up in Clip Browser and you will see them. It also aids in the conversion process to various formats whereas converting just the MP4 files may not always work.

In the Clip Browser double click on a clip so it shows in the viewer.
On the bottom half of the viewer clip, 5th tab ("Acquisition") all the XML data appears for that particular frame. If you play it you can see it change in realtime.
