Do I need to Use PMB to copy pictures or movies

Do I have to use PMB (Picture Motion Browser) software than came with my CX700V camcorder to copy pictures (I can't use a card ready any more, I was told... ) or import movies to PC.
I want to use VMS 9 platinum for editing my movies, will eventually upgrade to VMS 11 platinum.
I was used to mini DV cassettes... but had to jump to the memory card tech.

Vegas Movie Studio includes tools for downloading the video and photos from your camera and camcorder. No need to use the software that came with the device.

My experience so far has been that using the manufacturer-supplied software is generally the WORST way to move/copy/import files. It's about 3 notches less useful than, say, tossing your camera into the canal.

"I can't use a card ready any more, I was told..."

Don't listen to whoever said that. Just go try it yourself. About 99% of things folks are "told" about computers are A) untrue, and B) easily refuted (or occasionally even verified) in a few seconds by just trying it yourself.

You should be able to connect your cam with the USB cable and copy the video files to your PC using Windows Explorer, no need for software.

From a camcorderinfo.com review it says your cam has:

The camcorder is loaded with 96GB of internal flash memory, and a dual-format memory card slot that works with both SD and Memory Stick cards. To be specific, the card slot works with Memory Stick PRO Duo and Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo cards, as well as SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards.

Is it possible you were told that you can't use a card reader because you don't have the correct card reader in your PC? If so, you may be able to buy a USB adapter to read the card(s).

But with 96GB of internal memory, you shouldn't need cards as long as you download the video to your PC often enough to not fill up the cam.

The ImageMate 5-in-1 Reader/Writer (version 20-90-03067) accepts the following memory card formats:

Looks like you're all set. Good luck and post back if you still need help.

Thanks MSmart...
My mem cards are Luxar pro class 10.... I won't be able to capture, copy , transfer... (whatever the word is)....my movies to a PC while I am travelling... If I can copy my pictures every night using the card reader onto a laptop ... that would be great... .. but all my movies will have to stay on the cards... until I am back.... I usually have around 30 hours of recording....+ pictures, then the fun starts.....
