Hi everyone,
I've noticed in some software updates (ie Sonar) one needs to install .1 and .2 to get .3; is this the case with VV3 or will C give me everything I need?
Thanks in advance,
Randy
i think--but i'm not sure---each subsequent update adds the previous ones to it
as a result, if you didn't install updates a & b yet---c would be all you need
that's the way they usually work

Thanks SB,
Which is the way it should be but I just want to make sure. For example, (because I can't wait for the CD to arrive) I downloaded the tutorials but there seems to be something missing; the .veg files are there but I can't figure out how to make it tutor, if that makes sense.
Thanks again,
Randy
Before I continue making a fool out of myself, please try to remember how excited you were when you fist got started with NLE. That said, I downloaded the manual and found the .pdf tutorials there, however I got to a point to where it instructs me to select "edit/switches/lock" but everything is greyed out (yes, I highlighted the original video and audio tracks first). Any ideas?
Thanks again,
Randy
Thanks Cheesehole, that worked ( wondering why it didn't work according to the tutorial instructions) but now I'm having other weirdness: When I select an audio track (by clicking it's number), select a section of that track in the timeline, hit delete, it either does nothing or it deletes the whole track. I say it does nothing, but if I go to the edit menu it has "undo delete" as an option (after I clear the history). I just tried it again : I opened my saved tutorial, selected the voiceover track on track 3 by clicking the 3 and it's "box" (for lack of a better term) highlighted. I then made a selection in the timeline and the selection in that track (but also in another audio track) highlighted. I hit delete on the keyboard, I went to edit/delete, and finally right-clicked in the highlighted section of the voiceover track and hit delete...but nothing. Then I clicked "edit/undo delete" 3 times. After that the undo was greyed out so it is acknowledging some kind of delete but nothing I can see. I'm thinking this is probably user error but I sure can't understand what I'm doing wrong. Your help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks again,
Randy
Randy, if you want to delete an event, there's no need to select the track. If you select a track and then hit delete, the entire track and all events it contains will be deleted. If you want to delete a single event, just click on that event then hit delete.
Exactly. The key is where the focus is. If the focus is in the timeline, events and/or time are deleted (depending on the event selection and time selection). If the focus is in the track headers, then whole tracks are deleted. If the selection is in the Explorer window, then files are recycled, if the focus is in a keyframe ruler, keyframes are deleted. Just like Windows.

Hey Chienworks, thanks,
Well I'm actually going through the tutorial I downloaded from the SF site. It's dealing with cutting out a *section* of the event. That said, will you please re-read my post and see if you have a different reply?
Thanks again,
Randy
Randy, just highlighting a section of an event won't do it. You have to Split the even into pieces. if you're deleting the beginning or end of an event, one Split at the appropriate point will divide the event into two events and you can delete the one you want to get rid of. If you want to delete a piece out of the middle, you'll have to Split twice to isolate that middle section.
>Randy, just highlighting a section of an event won't do it.<
According to the tutorial it will. I ain't the sharpest tool in the shed but I have followed the instructions verbatum but it simply doesn't work!!! ( I think) :)

Yes, that is the other option they give, but it will not split the event either. I understand the concept (I've been doing it for years in Cakewalk's Pro Audio 9 and Sonar)but I couldn't be more sure that I'm doing the procedure as per the instructions. I sent an e-mail to SF help this morning, are they pretty responsive or like Cakewalk to where one gets all of their support from the news group?
Thanks again,
Randy
If I understand what you want to do, just make a time selection and press Delete. If you have no events selected, it will remove a chunk from all the events contained in the time selection. If you have one or more events selected, it will only remove a chunk from those events. If Ripple Mode is enabled, in either case, downstream events will move up to fill the empty spaces. Track selection has nothing to do with it at all.
This is also covered with illustrations in the manual and help.
Give that man a cigar!!! Thanks PCFX, I intentionally locked the initial tracks as per the tutorial but didn't realize I had inadvertently locked the voiceover replacement audio event in track 3. I had a feeling it was user error but I don't know when/if I would have figured it out. Thank you very much and thanks to everyone for your patience!
Randy
Thanks Billy Boy, that may have been obvious even to me had all three tracks (and events)not been locked but I'll try to remember that.
Thanks again,
Randy
