This has been discussed before. I don't think it's redundant. And yes, "real editors" use the Trimmer. It's not a matter of pro vs. amateur. It's a matter of personal preference. You'll only be able to make this decision as you work with Vegas. No two people use it exactly the same, I'm sure.

Same with regions. You're call entirely.

Only a matter of choice. Use whatever you want or both. Being left-handed my mouse (actually a track ball) is left of my keyboard. Some would think that is weird.

I find the trimmer very handy when working with long clips. Rather than putting the entire clip onto the timeline, then splitting and deleting or dragging the left or right edge to trim the clip, I do a quick selection in the trimmer window, hit the "A" key and pop the segment onto the timeline. I can then do a more precise trim of the short clip.

I'd have to agree with the others, however: it is a matter of choice and, like so many features in Vegas, each editor eventually finds the combination of tools that he/she is most comfortable with and develops a work flow that facilitates the job.

An example which I find the trimmer invaluable is when I film a 30 minute interview and want to log all of the potential cuts with descriptions. Alot of my videos are scripted as I edit so I could not live without the trimmer. When they add sub clip capability (version 5 please.....) it will be even more useful.
