Do SCS use their databases?

If I click on My Account / My Software, I can immediately see every piece of SCS software that I own, which is basically the latest version of all their Pro software ... Vegas, DVDA, Acid, Sound Forge, Cineform, CD Architect ...

Yet, last week I received an email encouraging me to buy Vegas Movie Studio, Acid Music Studio, Sound Forge and Photo Go, and today I had TWO emails telling me if I buy Vegas Pro 8 I can get 50% noff Acid Pro 7 or Sound Forge 9.

Not a serious problem, but mildly annoying!

But how annoying would it be if YOU knew somebody who DID want a great deal AND you didn't know? - I'm guessing that would also be part of the SONY communication too? I realise you are thinking that you don't need to purchase as you already have the top of the line. I am sure they know that too.

Of course, you could always deselect this in your Preferences?

Databases. Yah gotta luv 'em.

They keep buggin me to upgrade to SF9. I did that ages ago but there's still a glitch in their database that has my registration kind of messed up. It finally shows that I have SF9 but it also shows it's available as an upgrade. Go figure.

You got that upgrade email for the same reason you get spam: it costs $0.00 to send each additional email. Thus, unlike traditional mailing, there is zero economic incentive to clean up a mailing list or worry whether you might be sending something to a customer who already has the product.

Solution?

Charge for each email. This would stop ALL spam. You wouldn't have to charge much, perhaps $0.01 per email, maybe less. The incremental cost for most people would be $1 per month, but for spammers, it would put them out of business, and for legitimate businesses, it would force them to spend more time culling their database.

But what if you wanted / needed more than 1 license - surely an offer like this is appreciated even when we do already own the product?

How would you charge for email?

No, don't even bother trying to answer. Some of the very best minds in the email management and abuse fields have been debating this question for over a decade. There basically is no answer, as there is no way to do this.

For a long time my "my software" page didn't list any upgrades i was eligible for. I contacted SCS about it once and the response was a shrug. Now they're all listed.

What still bugs me is that the list on that page seems to be in random order. I wish it could be listed in order by product name. Better yet, allow us to sort by whatever column we choose. True, it's a teensy annoyance, but an annoyance nonetheless considering it used to be alphabetical.
