Does 8c fix this issue?

A little over a month ago I went from V5 to V8.
I like some of the "new" editing features in V8 but I used to have 3 or 4 instances of V5 open and not have a problem with the external preview.
Now when I switch from one instance to another it sometimes either stays on the previous preview or I get a blue screen (however if I turn my deck off and back on that usually sets it to the current instance).
My question is, from everything I've read so far about this update (V8 C not V8.1 because I am still XP Pro 32 bit working with SD only) it will not help my issue...would you agree ?
Perhaps V8 just requires more computer than I have ( 3.0ghz HT, 2 gigs Ram) and V5 didn't?
Thanks,
Randy

I've got just about the same horsepower as you. Overall i've found Version 8's handling of external preview to be much slicker and smoother than previous versions. Version 8 always seems to switch to showing the active instance, and releases the external output when no instance is active. It's worked well like this for me right from the first release.

However, having just updated to V8.c, i've seen a few cases where the external display now locks up for a short while or turns blue. Usually clicking back to that instance and then on to the other one again fixes it, or just waiting a couple seconds often clears it up too. Never had that problem before V8.c.

wow, it's just the opposite for me.
Do you think that a clean re-install could possibly make a difference?

Thanks Kelly,

umm..is this too dumb of a question to anwer or did it just go unnoticed?
I am in the middle of a large project with hundreds of files so maybe right now I should just live with the issue but it's pretty frustrating that my preview doesn't work as well as it did in V5.
If I do uninstall/reinstall do you think I should go with 8b or 8c.
Thanks very much,
Randy

JUST IN CASE anyone is watching this thread or remotely interested...I resolved the issue.
After banging my head against the wall trying to figure out why Kelly has smoother preview since V5 and mine was worse, something stuck out in Bob's (farss') thread "Can I suggest a few more of us read release notes?"
It made me wonder what the difference is between V5 and V8.
So I read the release notes for V6 (no light bulbs) and then V7 and found
- If your display adapter does not support 3D acceleration, you will not be able to use full-screen video preview on a secondary video monitor.
Being paranoid about letting my edit PC anywhere near the internet it hasn't had an update in years (except for the system requirements).
I updated my old dual NVidia card and it now works as well as V5 (maybe even smoother... like Kelly said).
So... okay ....maybe it was indeed a dumb question but I wanted to post this in case there is anyone else that may be putting up with the problem.

Thanks Bob,
Randy

Ahhh, interesting.

I've had hardware acceleration and 3D acceleration enabled on my video cards for years. Not sure what the 3D part has to do with it though.
