Does Capture require a firewire card?

In the VV3 documentation it seems to indicate that in order to utilize the capture feature a firewire card (or OCHI compliant) must be installed. Does this mean that you can not perform Video capture straight into VV3 through an ATI AIW video card?

If that is the case and I must use the ATI software to capture my VHS video does anyone know the best ATI software settings to use to get the best quality video (and audio) into VV3?

Thanks
Todd

You can use the AIW card from within Vegas' Video Capture. Under the Video menu, choose the ATI card as the input. However, i can guanantee you that you won't be anywhere near as pleased with the results as if you had a firewire card and captured digitally.

Unfortunately I can't even get into the Video Capture screen. Every Time I select Video Capture and get an error message that says my system is low on resources and it bail out on me. It doesn't lock up. It just goes back to the previous screen. The system is not low on resources. I try a fresh reboot. Win98 reports 73% of the resources are free. Pent II 400 w/ 256 Mg RAM and 95 MG rAM allocate for video preview.

Any idea why I keep getting that system low on resources message?

Thanks

Actually 73% is pretty low for a freshly booted system. What else do you have running on your computer? Ideally, there should be nothing but Explorer and Systray running before you start Vegas. This should give you over 90% resources free.

Yes, a well tweaked system can easily push up to 94%. Your 73% is VERY low.

Well, now that you are on the subject...Anyone use a program called Startup Cop?
I've been using it for 6 months and love it. MS config is one way to prevent programs from starting, but this program makes it much easier.

Before I start to do some video work, (or gaming) I open Startup Cop, hit my profile (customizable) for 'video' and restart. My computer reboots with nothing else running, but explorer and systray (96% free). When I'm done, I click on another profile for a normal start up (with my virus program, firewall, whatever else you want).

Very easy to use and it's free. Check out the reviews:
