Does "not visible" content slow down rendering ...

I will ask this question with an extreme example ..

If I have a video that is done ... (and there is NO SPOT on the video where there is either "nothing" or any opacity under 100%)

If I then put in another video track with content - that will NOT be seen at all in the final render - does the existence of that additional track make the Render longer than if it was not there?

-------------
In my real world case ..
if I want to have a graphic be on the screen at every point where there is nothing or where opacity lets something show through .. do I hurt myself by putting the clip as a track for the entire length - of the video - or should I just put a small clip of it- at the points where it will show up.

Hope I made the question clear I am probably using some of the wrong words ..

I haven't done the obvious experiment to time the results, but my gut feeling in doing the same real world scenarios is that Vegas is generally smart enough to ignore items that don't show up when rendering the frame.
