No it does not.

I'm not seeing render hangs at all in both avchd or HDV.... what format are your time lines and render outputs?

Not sure I agree with that one, just tried to render AVC using the MainConcept encoder from Vegas 9 32 bit yesterday, and it doesn't hang Vegas at all. It kills it instantly. So, that is "solved" in a way.

Well I sure can't vouch for main concept avc.... don't really use it, but I did a 5 hour render with sony avc yesterday and all went well.

I've had a V8 render issues that I have posted about before, and got a lot of great help but was not able to resolve them. Three different computers, same issues. 100% repeatable.

V9 has the same issue.

Bummer... I realize many are not having them but for those that do this is a dissapointment. Only happens to me on big projects but is a real pain when on a deadline. Formats vary. I have had them using Cineform and M2t files (HDV only).

I installed V9 and found it to be useless due to render hangs. I am using AVC files, rendering to the same AVC format as the original files, 1920 by 1080 60i.

Vegas has clearly not been tested at all prior to release. This is what worries me about Vegas. This is cowboy coding where the only real testing happens when the user gets the product in his hands. It is an outrageous behavior and utterly inexcusable.

I used to have a lot of problems in V8 but fixed them with several tweaks of my Vista settings. Vegas 9 works completely fine - I can render anything now without a crash. I am sooo bored with nothing to fix or complain about. Now I have to edit all the video that has piled up over the last year of having fits with Vegas 8!

Mike,

Could you please give examples of the tweaks you applied in Vista? Might be useful.

Simple: Put all of your apps into the Defender exception file, Go to the classic windows interface, install 8 gig of ram and run the ram checker and if bad try changing the voltages in bios, remove all goody-goody windows gui stuff, uncheck indexing of drives, do not install anti virus software, if using NERO only install what you need, use the latest firmware for your burners and optical drives, make sure your power supply is around 700-800 watts, after installing third party apps make sure everything still works, install all latest windows updates, set cooling fans in bios to run all the time, do not overclock, and it is absolutely imperative to install all new motherboard updates particularly involving SATA drives.

I tried to test V9 by opening the VEGs that gave fits to V8. Unfortunately, V9 crashed immediately after loading the files, so I wasn't able to get far enough to test it (except on one exceptionally short - but tough - 2-min project; actually it did render without a hitch).

I have found that by cutting up the long projects into short chunks, I've always been able to render my projects in V8 - if I'm patient enough to restart Vegas, or reboot, as needed (pretty often, sad to say). It takes a lot of my time, but it works.

I've tried every tweak for WinXP posted on this board for the last couple of years or so. Some helped a bit - using an Intel CPU on an Intel MB, using just one core & one rendering thread, no anti-virus, etc. etc. But nothing cured the problem.

I have a highly-rated PS on my main editing computer (ASUS P5B), but just purchased a new Corsair TX750w power supply that is supposed to have exceptionally stable and clean output voltages. It arrived this morning. As soon as I get it in and working, I doubt it's going to help (after all, I still get the same pattern of hang-ups on my old P4 with a completely different list of hardware components), but I'll give another test and post the results here.
