Note that the stability of Vegas can be compromised by some vst plugins and wrappers. It's use at your own risk but it should work for most applications.
The VST to DX wrapper will not allow Sample Tank to work in Vegas. A VST instrument (VST2) like Sample Tank that requires MIDI input to generate sound will not work usless that host application lets you have MIDI access to plug-ins.
Sample Tank lists as their system requirements:
VST MIDI Sequencer
Macintosh® and Windows®: to use SampleTank® you need Cubase VST®, Logic™Audio or any other sequencer compatible with VST® instruments.
VST1 (effects) plug-ins may work with a wrapper, and it's buggy. Sound iniviting?
Sonic Foundry apps may someday support VST, ideally full blown VST2 or at least DXi (Direct X plug-in samplers and synths with MIDI input ala VST2). Until then, if wishes were fishes, we'd all be swimmin' Or using Sonar.
So do you think by using a WRAPPER and VST-HALION(softSynth) I could record into ACID 3.0? It supports MIDI. (This is a ploy by SonicFoundry to get you to buy more of their products--VEGAS is supposed to be the bad @$$ multitracker but you have to buy ACID if you want MIDI support)
The MIDI 'support' in ACID is pretty lousy... i.e it only plays back, and will not allow any editing of midi. But at least you can import MIDI files which is more than Vegas will do. Don't think it's worth the effort of trying to use a VST wrapper for virtual instruments.
However, I use FX xpansion's VST wrapper version 3.0 and it works great for normal (non-instrument) plugins. The VST plugs just appear on your plugin list like normal DX plugs! And I've not had any stability problems with these plugs either!
