doing things the long / wrong way with renders

i posted here yesterday and got some great insight on how i might do things better next time i have long project, but for right now i am sitting with a completed render of a 2hr movie (home movies) that is in svcd format and at 2.1 gigs. my problem is that i don't have a dvd burner just a cdr.

my question, is how do i or can i now split this svcd into smaller parts that will fit on cdr disks. ie 3 disks each holding about 700 megs. do i go to vv and split it up and then re-render just the smaller part. or is there something i can do to the file to just burn a portion of the file.

i realize this is not the ideal or even the smart way to do this sort of thing, but i just spent 36hrs rendering the video and am hoping i can fix this.

i hope someone has a great answer for me.

thanks

I assume your video was/is in mpg1 or 2 format - the best way to split the file or files is with one of the split/join utilities (you'll find some at digital-digest.com as well as the doom9 site). These prog. will split the files at the closest I frame to your target time or frame - no help for that but re-rendering.

If you no longer have the mpg1/2 files, the mentioned sites also have tools to extract them from the SVCD files.

Once you have your video files, you'll have to re-do the svcd menu setup etc.

You might gain more insight by visiting vcdhelp.com

To answer your second question, yes you can burn just a portion of your project easily.
Hover your mouse over the top edge of the timeline, it turns into a double headed arrow cursor. Go to the frame where you want a section to begin and while holding down left mouse drag. A gray bar just above the timeline will be drawn extending as far as you drag. This defines a region. You can fine tune this selection after you make a rough selection just by dragging the bar drawn.

This method is also good for looping a region for continious playback to see how you effected the region with your editing. Just click anywhere on the timeline within the region selected so the cursor it within in, then click on the loop button and that selction will play repeatedly until you hit the loop button again. <wink>

Now decide on how you're going to render, file type, template. Check 'render loop region only' and only the portion you selected in the previous step will get rendered. The problem of course will be to see how close you can get to filling up a CD without having blank area or having too much. Either problem can be corrected by changing the bitrate, but that's probably the dumber way to do it.

Visiting VCD Help is a good idea, lots of tips, discussion on this kind of topic.
