Ok i have hooked up my camera and figured out that the software will record video and audio.. but it keeps using the camera mic no matter what I select in preferences and Audio.. How can i turn off the camera microphone in the software and just use the microphone i have hooked up to my sound card? Yet still be able to record video at the same time...

im recording myself playing guitar so i have to record the sound and playing in sync

You can't do this directly with VidCap. The audio and video come combined in the same data stream from the camcorder and that's what VidCap records.

You could plug the mic into your camcorder and capture that way. You could also use Vegas to record from the sound card while VidCap records from the camcorder. Then you would end up with a .AVI file from the camcorder and a .WAV file from the sound card. In Vegas, Delete the audio from the camcorder and add the .WAV file instead. You will probably have to slide the audio track left or right a bit to get it to sync up with the video, but it can be done easily enough. The one thing to watch out for is that the two separate recordings may not run at exactly the same speed, so you may have to Ctrl-stretch or Ctrl-squish the audio to get it to match the video.
