I needed net 3.0, Vegas Pro 8 offered to install it for me. It downloaded, left it in the app-data directory and when it tried to start it an error occured with something along the lines of 'unsuitable computer' or somesuch.

It ran fine manually, and I wanted to keep a copy on CDR in case I ever have to rebuild my machine while offline out in the field or in a hotel room etc.

Manually installing .net framework 3 worked. Then, without having to reboot the Vegas Pro 8 install went through fine and I'm started, and I think I like it.

Did it install Media Manager for you?

dot net 3 installed automatically from the vegas install. It started right up without a hitch. I was even able to experience the slow frame rate of 32 bit floating point. Overall, it looks like a worth while update. No complaints here... although I would like to know what speed processor will play at full frame rate in preview mode auto. Currently I am running a 5000+ dual core AMD proc.

i didn't try installing V8 yet, I got .net 3 first. Guess I didn't need to. :)

VegasPro8 trial is ~75MBytes, .net 3.0 is ~50MBytes. I don't think it is included in the download. VisualC++ 2005 redistributable may be, I found that in the Sony Setup directory and it was (M I think) an older release than the current one hosted by Microsoft.

I don't think it hurts to have these additional components downloaded.
I wish all the Sony items on the installation discs were downloadable. I personally can't justify the layers of tax and duty that having the merchandise forces and I have no interest in waiting for my local dealer to stock SKUs suitable for upgrades.

So I'm unable to enjoy any additional materials from the packaged media or to be up-sold to Cinescore etc. I'd like to but I'd have to leave a bundle of cash with my wife to pay fedex/UPS with when they knock the door. She would probably spend it first and I'd miss out.

.net 3.0 - manually downloading or taking a copy of what the Vegas installer offers to download for me..... now that I can control and will happily undertake!

Tough eh? Well I've got the bit I wanted to see. 30 days to see the right price on offer to loyal customers...... Well, at the current £->$ exchange rate - I'd probably be OK with the full upgrade price but it is a principle thing and Sony have already set the expectation that list prices are for the more foolhardy. <------ scrub this paragraph. Using the link on the 2voucher" post I've bought into VegasPro8+DVDAPro4.5 for US$134.95 + my european taxes.

Merchandise Total: $134.95
Discount Total: $100.00
EU VAT Tax $23.62
Order Total: $158.57

I'm happy with that, even if the new features didn't quite work straight off. I'd almost pay that kind of figure on an annual basis for a bundle of bug fix patches. OK, so I'll not be having a takeaway dinner on Friday night. A free diet plan too!

strange. the version i linked to was 2.8mb & it was the redistributable.
jetdv wrote on 9/10/2007, 7:45 AM
TheHappyFriar, the .NET 3.0 redistributable that I download from Microsoft is 50.3 meg. My guess is you only downloaded the "stub" that, in turn, downloads the real thing.
TheHappyFriar wrote on 9/10/2007, 8:03 AM
The link I posted above says "redistributable". No clue why it says 2.8 meg's. It locked up on me & I had to re-boot to get it installed via vegas. Didn't try to download anything either.

Try:

http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=70848

The 2.8 meg link you indicated is at the top of this page:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=10cc340b-f857-4a14-83f5-25634c3bf043&DisplayLang=en

The 50.3 meg link above is in the middle of the page. In fact, there's two separate links there - one for 32bit and one for 64bit.

This is all very weird. I have had .net ver 1,2 AND 3 all installed before installing Vegas 8, and yet it did NOT install the Media Manager for me (Media Manager is running fine with Vegas 7 installation). Does any one have Media Manager functional in v8?

Also, Control Panel shows .Net 3 was last used back in March 2007, so it seems egas never actually saw it. Does any one have Media Manager functional in v8?

Will somebody please help me find this? The link above, by jetdv, wants to download something and offers me a dotnetfx3.exe, which isn't making me feel very confident about downloading it.
I've wasted at least a 1/2 hour at Microsoft trying to find it. I swear they go out of their way to make you waste a ton of time. All I can find is the redistributable page and it says not to use it on a single computer.
Or is this in the downloadable version of Vegas 8 Pro, I got from Sony, because I'm under the impression it's not as 'System requirements' states: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 (included on application disc) **
TGS wrote on 11/2/2007, 10:46 PM
Okay......heh..heh.
Never mind. I finally found it at Microsoft and it is called dotnetfx3.exe.
I was expecting to be taken to a page I'd have to scroll down on, when I read it, and instead this thing offered to be downloaded and I chickened out.

Media Manager is now a separate optional install from Vegas.

This I know, as I'm planning on skipping it, but don't tell me that's what I need the .NET Framework 3.0 for.

Nope, the scripting engine in VP8 using .Net 3.0
jetdv wrote on 11/3/2007, 7:58 AM
I believe the new titler also uses .NET 3
