Dotted Line on Timeline Cuts Video Off Early!

Hopefully someone will know what I'm talking about.

I have two projects, one with a single video+audio stream of about an hour, and a second with two Video+audio streams of 50 mins and 10 mins.

On all three video streams when I look at them on the timeline, there is a dotted line (similar to the cursor, but separate to that). It occurs just as each video fades to black at the end (they all fade to black followed by up to 15 seconds of black).

The result of this dotted line is that it cuts off the video image a few seconds before it actually ends, although the audio keeps going as normal. It's NOT the End Marker, which I definitely have set to the end of the actual video. There seems to be no way to reposition this dotted line, and it's driving me up the wall trying to figure out why it's there.

Oh, and the early cutoff does translate to the finalised project.

Please help! :-(

Cheers
Paul

The dotted line shows the end of the audio or video whichever is shorter.

If the audio is shorter, it will be filled with silence to match the length of the video. If the video is shorter, it will be filled with black frames to match the length of the audio.

That's what I thought. So last night I did a video-only render of one of the projects. When I load the mpeg into Premiere, it plays all the way through, no problems. If I load it into Vegas or DVD Architect, it cuts out early. Closer examination showed that it cuts out just as the fade to black starts.

Is there some changable option that I'm missing that detects the end of the video signal (ie; that there's only black remaining, and thus assumes that it's the end)?

I'm trying another test render at the moment where I've added a brief "DVD Created 2003" graphic to the end a few seconds after the fade, so I'll see if that makes any difference.

Thanks

DVD Architect does not process the video data to try and determine an earlier end of the video signal.

What is the length of the video in DVDA? Go into the video and the last entry in the timeline's status bar is the duration (i.e. length).

What is the length of the video source? What is the length of the audio source? You can determine this by clicking on the source video and audio file(s) in the media explorer. Also, what is the file format of the source audio and video?

If you drop the source video on the Vegas timeline, does it cut off the end of the video? If so, what application did you use to encode the source video?

Okay, now I feel like a bit of an idiot. I installed the latest update (something I should have done in the first place) and that's solved the problem.

For the record, the video was encoded with TMPGEnc, as at this stage I have the settings worked out to give a nice picture in that prog. Vegas at the moment looks a little "soft" in comparison, but I haven't had a chance to sit down and really tweak the settings yet. The premature cutoff occurs in Vegas as well as (the early version of) Architect, but not in Adobe Premiere.

Thanks for the help :-)
