Double XX's at splits?!

I'm working in 9.0e 64-bit and have a weird, weird issue I've never seen before. In the file I'm working on I've lined up the audio and video of two cameras and my good audio track. I made an event group of the whole business. When I split the events I'm seeing something really weird at the split point in the audio. It looks like a crossfade (with the "X" pattern) on each side of the split. When I see this there is nothing I can do to get crossfades to work right when I overlap events. There's always an audible tick. Has anyone else seen this behavior?

How long is the "crossfade" you speak of? You may have accidentally created a copy of all the clips, and they're on top of each other on the tracks. I've noticed something weird with Vegas: if I hold down the control key while selecting multiple items, and I just barely click too long and drag a clip, Vegas creates a copy of that clip. It can be really annoying when using ctrl to select events only to wind up with copies of every clip, one on top of the other.

You know, you may be onto something. The "crossfades" aren't long - .1 second maybe? I "solved" the problem by going back a version in my file and just redoing some work. I've had the double clip problem and it is very confusing. Do you know how to get rid of these rogue superimposed copies? I've always found that problem vexing. I get very nervous when I detect that problems have been accidentally propagated across many clips - you never know how it'll bite you.

I'm not sure if this is a bug but I've encountered something similar. The event may be part of a group of events on different tracks and the event may have to be ungrouped (U-key).

The unwanted duplicate events happen when you hold Ctrl and Drag an event, from within the rectangle rather than from an edge - it's a very handy way of making a copy, but often whilst holding Ctrl you may inadvertently drag from within an event rectangle and produce an unwanted duplicate.
