Down-conversion for editing

Hi All. This is my first post having just purchased Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10 (following a new Sony AVCHD camcorder)

I have the jumpy playback window which has been much discussed on this forum and will prevent me from editing my footage accurately. (Really unhappy about this!!! )

One of the work arounds is to down convert the clips on the timeline to another format which I can then edit but if I did this will I lose the AVCHD quality of my original footage? Surely this would be throwing the baby out with the bathwater?

Any advice much appreciated.

Thanks

Movie Studio 10 has a proxy function now. Just type in proxy in the help search.

Thanks for the answer Byron but what do you mean?

It's pretty straight forward. In Vegas, click on Help / Contents and Index. In the help screen's Search tab type in proxy and click list topics. In particular the help article about "Creating Proxy Files for High-Definition Editing" should be of interest.

The upshot is that after you've finished editing with the reduced resolution files you then replace them with the original HD files before rendering. Nothing lost except a lot of frustration and wasted time while editing.

Ah I see. Sounds easy so I'll have a stab. Thanks for your help.
