downgrading myself

troven wrote on 2/12/2003, 2:26 PM
well, i guess i've got myself a small case of 'early adopter syndrome'. after upgrading to V4 i can't seem to get my system tweaked enough to avoid the static blasts and glitches that seem to be a universal problem - so, i'm downgrading myself back to Vegas Audio 2.0h (I never bothered with V3 even.) I'm pretty confident that everything will be fixed eventually but I don't feel like stressing about it when i could be happily recording. the 150 dollar upgrade deal was a bargain and i'm glad i jumped on it. this is going to be great - i just know it. you guys might consider doing the same.

please stay on sf tech support if you havent reproted these static blasts and such to them directly, please do so...this is a big issue, but a LOT of people arent having it...I would love to be using v4 too, but I am having the same issues as you

We are on it. We have a couple of repro cases now - nothing concrete, but enough to get a handle on the problem.

I am itching to upgrade, but glad I am waiting. What would help me take the plunge is a function to "Save As VV3 project", so if I do have problems after recording/saving in V4, I can revert to the prev version and not end up with 'orphaned' projects.

After seeing all the "buggy" posts I think I'll wait until the first update. ;-(

Personally I wouldn't wait too long. SoFo will quickly get on these bugs, and you will have bought V4 for a ridiculous amount before March 15th. Buy V4 as a download, burn it to CD and keep using VV3 for now. Don't even install V4 if you're unsure. But one thing is for sure, SoFo is going to tune V4 within a couple upgrades, and when she's purring like a kitten, you 'll have a rock solid app for what...$150.

What is the static problem ?

I get some static when I try to playback some tracks when a track is armed for recording....

Anyone else ?

I mixed 3 tracks for an upcoming record using V4 (beta!) and the others on VV3c.
The new features were too alluring to not use V4 even with it's minor issues.

bgc: what type of system are you using? Please post some details because if you are *not* having the problems others are reporting (static bursts, stuttering, gapping, etc) it may help to sort this out. Thanks!

There were discussions on the Acid forum regarding a "denormal bug" related to P4s. Basically I think it mentioned CPU spikes happening when the calculations being performed by the P4 were too small. Do a search for "denormal" in the Acid forum, you should find something.

The problem some are seeing with burst of audio are not related to denormal issues. This appears to be a file i/o issue.

FWIW: Some are finding that by moving files to different drives or recording to different physical drives, the problems are not manifesting themselves.

We are on it.

my stuttering and gapping disappeared with the official street release. I had the static burst problem occur once, but it went away - which doesn't seem to be an odd occurance given it's a bizarro file i/o thing.

I have an AMD 2200 processor with a half gig of RAM with a 333 ASUS motherboard. Um, also a C drive for programs and a dual IDE drive RAID D drive for audio. I'm also running Win2K, sp3. (Don't want xp spyware on my machine. The idea of trying to turn off all of microsoft's "phone home" and "helpful tips" features is too much to contemplate. i'll stick with 2k until i absolutely have to change.)

V4 rocks. Love it. The static burst thing is nasty from my experience but having Peter and the V4 team on it makes me confident it will go away pronto.
