downloaded song

I have downloaded songs from the internet through Napster. I cannot import them into Vegas for background music for a slideshow. Is there a way to convert them to use them? They are in an MPEG4 format.

.m4a? if so open them in quicktime, export them as .wav, pull them into vegas.

I checked again and I can only open them in Windows media. In Quicktime it says that they are not a movie file.
