I use DVD VideoSoft. It's free and saves to an mp4 file at the native posted resolution.

You can download just about any YouTube video by changing its URL from youtube.com to ssyoutube.com. For example (chosen randomly from something YouTube has just told me about but I have not seen yet), if the video URL is change it to https://www.ssyoutube.com/watch?v=u98zhWkFtWk and you’ll be able to download it. If the video is in HD, it will even offer you several options of resolutions.

There are other ways to download YT videos, but this one is very easy to remember (just type a double s before youtube in the URL, so it becomes ssyoutube), which makes it very easy to do. And it works with all major browsers.

Wow, that was super easy (ssyoutube.com).

Just be careful you don't fall for one of the "we recommend you download *** to download from Youtube" pitches. You don't need to download any software.

Adam ((Red Prince), many thanks for the great tip!

The ssyoutube is taking you to another site which does try to get you download other software.

Same here, the Firefox add-on 'Video DownloadHelper'
Info states, "It also works with most video sites like DailyMotion, Facebook, Periscope, Vimeo, Twitch, Liveleak, Vine, UStream, Fox, Bloomberg, RAI, France 2-3, Break, Metacafe and thousands others."

Yes, ssyoutube redirects you to a different domain (they use ssyoutube because it is easy to remember). It offers you to download their software, so what. You don’t have to download that software (I never did, so I cannot comment on how good that software works). It takes them several seconds to analyze the video on the corresponding YouTube page, then it displays various options to what format to convert the video. I always choose the highest quality MP4 available. Their server then converts it to MP4 and lets you download the MP4.

It works very nicely and you need no other software than your browser.

I only mentioned it because at first glance, it looked like it was the youtube site offering the download, but it isn't. My link that I provided is similar, in that it is a 3rd party site. There is no magic in using the ss, it is just a link to another site.

Was not criticizing, they are all means to the same end.
