Yes, I can drag a Filter package directly to an Event. But can we do the same with the Track Header?
It would appear I need to click on the "Track Fx" Icon within Track Header, wait till the Fx Window appears, select Filter Packages and click "Add". Please confirm or deny . .
Grazie, I don't see any way of doing this.
I had the Filter Packages tab open and, while I could successfully drop it onto an event, I couldn't drop it onto the Track Header.
Same here, tested with 8c, 9c and 9e. The mouse cursor is changed to the 'Add' icon but there is no way to get the FX package applied at track level using drag & drop.
Jay? If you don't have any, then maybe you haven't created any? If so, then do do some. The are a great way to repeat an FX-Chain over and over again. I have something like 900 of the blighters that I try on unsuspecting Events. They are a great way to add correction on the fly; try looks; quickly apply all sorts of smoothing and combined levels and so on.
I do have one FX package, but I don't see it listed anywhere by its name, so cannot drag it. I can, however, add it from the filter packages folder. Just like with a single FX.
I have a bunch of custom fx strings (packages). The part I hate is that anytime I click on the plugin chain icon I have to wait about 5 seconds for the window to open up.
Of course I can bypass this if I am not using a saved plugin chain by just using the video fx tab and dragging to the event.
Grazie, are you saying that you can access your custom plugin chains from the video fx tab or some other tab? If so, where? Apparently I missed that memo. If this is the case, that will save me a whole lot of 5 seconds :)
In FX chain window of some track or event, use the 'Save As' button. Your chains will then appear in the filter packages folder of plugin chooser or plugin manager windows.
The tricky part is Jay that once you get your chain how you want it, you have to click the button to add another fx (even though you are not adding anything else). This is where you can click the save as button.
Just spoke with Grazie, understand his workflow and have duplicated it, so let me see if I can restate the problem (BTW .. I think it's a bug).
In an open project:
1. View -> Plug-in Manager
2. Drill down in Video -> FX until you have the FX Packages open - should see the chain(s) you have saved.
3. Drag package
Works dragging to an event
Works dragging to Video Output FX (preview window)
DOES NOT work dragging to track header.
This, IMHO, is a bug and have opened up a case with SONY support.
Correct . If this was a feature, and it didn't work as per, then this would be bug. But all we can glean from the evidence is that which works in one way, stubbornly refuses to work this other way. If it ain't a bug in programming, it sure is a bug in the logic in the workflow.
How does that rate amongst your levels of user-ability, Kelso?
I'm not much of a drag & drop person. In Vegas the only cases i can think of where i use it are dragging clips to the timeline and dragging transitions onto crossfades. It just never seemed that useful a process for me compared to other methods of accomplishing the same task. So, i probably would have gone the entire rest of my life without ever noticing this particular lack.
I know lots of fellow computer users who don't even know what drag & drop is, and wouldn't want to learn about it if i mentioned it to them.
Then again, i don't use bins, the trimmer, subclips, or project media, and the *only* script i've ever used and may ever use is "Render still image sequence". I guess i'm a very simplistic user.
"Our Development team has identified this problem as a bug in the current build of the software. They anticipate a fix for this functionality in a future release of the Vegas Software. "
