dragging a frame

I recently bought a Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9. My problem is when I drag a frame to insert it in another position between two frames, the two frames do not automatically separate so that I can position the dragged frame between them. Instead, the dragged frame lies on top of the frames with a transition X and then I have to manually separate the frames to get a space where I can position the dragged frame. I have never had that problem with other software. Does anyone have that problem? This is very weird to me.

It is the other software that do it wrong. Vegas has the correct behavior about this, because it allows for flexibility -- someone might want a transition you see, not a straight cut. The other editors only allow for straight cuts, by making space between the other frames.

1) Options->Ignore Event Grouping --or-- Select the affected events, then Ctrl+U
2) Click to enable the Auto-Ripple icon on your toolbar
3) The "dragging a frame" action will behave as you expected in your original post

Or is there something in Movie Studio that does not allow this, Eugenia?

I don't know, I don't use that because in my opinion, it's a bad UI behavior. The fact that some older video editors use that have spoiled people.

??, you don't use auto-ripple?

No, I don't. I place events where I want exactly, not where they would be if others made space for it. It's impossible to edit music videos or short movies, or even synchronized videos with that option ON.

Got it. I leave it off for the most part too. There are times when it comes in handy so I'll turn it on as needed.

Hi Charmion,
Try 'Right' clicking on the event you want to move, place it where you want it, then select 'Shuffle Events', and see if that isn't what you are looking to do. Let us know if it helps. Cin

That's exactly what I was looking for--to place the dragged frame between two frames without a transition and without having to shift the other frames when a space is left by the dragged frame.

Thanks a million
