Dragging playhead in the trimmer

I am not quite a newbie but close. I am running a 4800 dual core CPU with 2 gigs of ram and Vegas 6d.
When I drag the playhead in the timeline window, I have a positive connection until I release the mouse. On the otherhand, when I drag the playhead in the trimmer window, I almost immediately lose connection, the playhead stops and the mouse pointer takes off according to whatever my hand is doing.

I have had this problem before, and recall solving it through a previous post but can't find it now.

Help?

Not quite sure what your problem is, but try double clicking on the clip in the trimmer. The clip will turn blue. Then move the cursor to either the extreme left or right side of the clip. The cursor will become a horizontal, double-headed arrow.
Hold down the left mouse key and drag. This allows you to scrub through the clip in either direction. You can release the left mouse key at any time, then pick up where you left off by hovering over the edge of the scrub line until you get the double headed cursor, the left click and hold, etc.

Hope this helps.

Ah ha...there is the problem. I don't get a double horizontal arrow, only a single. The single arrow loses contact with the playhead in the trimmer window, and turns back into the "hand". Yes, I am hlding the left mouse key down.
