Draw text

YFC wrote on 8/19/2002, 6:56 PM
Hello! Does anybody know how to create effects like texts that "auto-draw"? For example, in the begining of the George Michael video, Too Funky, the letters appears as someone was writing them.
I also would like to know how to extract part of the image, I mean map a portion of the picture and be able to handle it. Example: I want to make an object desapear from the video, so I draw a line (path) around it and do what ever I wanna do!
I´m sorry for my bad english, if you want I can send examples of what I want by e-mail.
Thanks.

to make an object disapper---
1) shoot the scene without the object
2) shot the scene with the object
3) place one event on top of the other on the timeline
4) use a fade out envelope
that should do it

For text that "writes-on" you may need a compositing program like After Effects or Combustion.

Manipulating regions of a moving image can be very complex and require similar programs.

As a NLE, Vegas has excellent compositing tools, but is not a dedicated compositing program.

Sounds like a job for some creative masking. Maybe a (close-up) video of a hand actually writing or painting text on a particular colored canvas / paper. Wear a blue glove, use a utensil that is blue, blue paper?, with.....a completely different colored ink or paint...
Good question though!

VV is an editor and quite good. It also is very good as a general purpose compositor. For what you want to do you need a video paint program and special effects program. I do not know if the offer is for Europe or not, but here in the States, NewTek (Video Toaster) is offerring Aura DV which does exactly what you are requesting. It is a video paint program with animated brushes. You can get it by attending a Video Toaster demo.

The other way would be to create it step by step in an animation program like PaintShop Pro and animation shop and render it with an Alpha channel.
