Drawing Hand Effect.

I've seen a couple of videos that have a hand apparently "drawing" the panels in a video.

Examples:

Does anyone know how this is done, and what it might take for me to do something similar in VMS?

It looks to me like the medical one was a series of stills taken of a skilled artist drawing on a whiteboard. There are shadows of the arm and hand all over.

The second one looks like an animated arm.

In either case, you could have the images drawn and photographed, then import them as an image sequence, then chromakey an arm/hand and lay it over that. It all sounds like a lot of work.

It could have been made as a screen video grab using a wacom Cintic screen digitzer for the drawing, then adding the artificial hand afterwards.
