Boris RED will allow you to draw lines 2d or extruded 3d , paint images or part of an image , splats, ribbons, text or image sequences like music notes etc
On an image it will be fine, for video you will have to create in Red an extra plane which will be the video clip, draw your stuff and then delete the extra plane before you go back into Vegas.
Also Heroglyph but it’s very limited
I would recommend Animi studio debut is a good cheap ap that will let you draw on, morph and bend video and images but does not work in Vegas
I thought rotoscoping was really masking??
Not actually drawing lines, shapes on video.
I have thought about using masking on say a red generated media to exclude all areas but what line I want to draw. Sort of the inverse of actually drawing a line on a video clip.
Has anyone used Animi Studio Debut? Looks like its designed for cartoons, but could be good if it allows free drawing.
My goal is really on maps, but can think of many uses for simple drawing tools in Vegas. Seems like it would be a great addition for Vegas. If the structure exists to draw freely in masking, why not add a tool for just drawing a line of any shape?

If you want to draw something then you'd generally want to use a path rather than a mask. Having defined the path which has a beginning and an end you can then apply a stroke and control the progress of the stroke over time. At least that's how I've done it in After Effects to draw animated lines and to make text appear to be written by hand.
It would indeed be a wonderous thing if Vegas had the concept of a path. A path has many uses.

You can do this in Vegas using Boris FX or Boris RED. Both have a path tool with animated strokes (just like After Effects). I use this in my training videos on Boris TV to draw animated arrows to point to things. There is a new version of RED coming out that is more tightly integrated Vegas so you might want to inquire about that.
> "Johnny, do you know when the new version of RED will be released?"
I don't but even if I did, I'm sure I could not say because Boris hasn't announced it yet. They did show it at the end of the webinar that I did so at least we it's up and running.
