"dream" transition

I'm trying to create a transition between clips that gives the impression the subject is falling into a dream. Any suggestions?

Drop a medium gaussian blur onto a dissolve between the two events (make it 2 sec. or more) and then keyframe it down to a light blur to keep the impression going.
