Dropouts to Black

Hi,

i am getting an interesting anamolity. My VV3.0c renders have "black dropouts".

I have captured some 704x576 pal mpeg2 video files with my MAtrox G450eTV card.

I have dragged them into vegas, set the project to 704x576 and Upper Field (apparently thats what the matrox captures) and made some edits...basically taking out some commercials. I have then rendered to a 720x576 mpeg2 DVD file using VV3.

I get a 1 second black screen dropout on the rendered video, after each edit point in vegas. These dropouts occur about 1 min or so after each commercial was edited.

The sound continues fine, just the video goes black and fades back up. Annoying.

This happens on all my video takes.

Any ideas?

Many thanks,

Blackout

did you try rendering to DV? same black spots?

I would also suggest capturing to DV if at all possible. Rendering from MPEG to MPEG is asking for trouble.

Hi,

thanks for responding.

if i render to avi DV, same problem.

Future captures will be made with DV, however i have a heap of video files like this. This seems like it should be a pretty standard process for a video editor, im guessing theres a setting thats wierd here.

I have noticed that sometimes it goes to black and "flikkers" for several times before it comes back, like theres a frame sync problem or something, then it becomes smooth again. Is this something to do with I frames or something like that? Its wierd because the original file plays back in Windows Media Player and Vegas perfectly smoothly....

Many thanks,
darren.
